VORTEX-CoLab in Porto is on the lookout for skilled Embedded Systems Research Engineers to enhance their innovative team. Candidates should possess a background in Computer Engineering or similar fields, such as Electrical and Computer Engineering, with strong skills in embedded systems and FPGA development.

In this role, engineers will work with cross-functional teams to create next-gen embedded systems. Benefits include health insurance, flexible working conditions, and an attractive salary range of 29,000 to 32,000 EUR.

Qualificações

• Understanding of embedded systems, including hardware/software co-design.
• Hands-on experience in FPGA development using AMD (Xilinx) tools.
• Knowledge of C/C++ programming for embedded systems.

Responsabilidades

• Design and implement FPGA-based solutions for embedded systems.
• Collaborate to design, prototype, and test solutions.
• Perform verification & validation testing of embedded systems.

Conhecimentos

Understanding of embedded systems

Hands-on experience in FPGA development

Knowledge in C/C++ programming

Familiar with IP design flow

Good communication skills

Experience with RISC-V architecture

Knowledge of CVA6, Cheshire, Carfield, OpenTitan

WHO?

VORTEX-CoLab is looking for exceptional Embedded Systems Research Engineers with a background in Computer Engineering or similar (Embedded Systems, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics) and who meet the following requirements:

• Understanding of embedded systems, including hardware/software co-design and integration;
• Hands‑on experience in FPGA development, particularly using AMD (Xilinx) tools and platforms;
• Knowledge in programming languages such as C/C++ for embedded systems, along with hardware description languages (HDL) like VHDL and/or System Verilog;
• Familiar with IP design flow, with knowledge in RTL design, verification, and integration into larger systems;
• A real thirst for knowledge and to stay ahead of the latest trends make you an active curious and inventive thinker. You´re not afraid to try something new;
• Good oral and written communication skills;
• Experience with RISC‑V architecture, including processor design and implementation for embedded systems, as well as related tools like instruction sets and toolchains;
• Knowledge of CVA6, Cheshire, Carfield, or OpenTitan is a plus;
• Experience in developing innovative solutions for safety‑critical and real‑time embedded systems;
• Familiarity with object‑oriented programming languages;
• Familiarity with Linux device drivers and microcontrollers;
• Familiarity with connectivity protocols like Zigbee, LoRa, Bluetooth;
• Familiarity with low‑level communication protocols like SPI, I2C, Ethernet, UART, CAN;
• A love of all things tech; from the latest in artificial intelligence, to whatever software, hardware, or combination of both, is required to get the job done.

As an Embedded Systems Research Engineer at Vortex-CoLab you will work collaboratively with a cross‑functional team of other engineers, researchers, designers and product managers supporting initiatives that will define the next generation of embedded and real‑time systems that are highly connected, with massive processing power and performing complex applications. As a member of the team you will drive future concepts and contribute to our innovation roadmap and prototype solutions.

How you can expect to fill your days:

• Design and implement FPGA‑based solutions for embedded systems;
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to design, prototype, and test solutions that meet complex functional and performance criteria;
• Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for design specifications, test plans, and code;
• Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously enhance system performance and functionality;
• Feed your passion for embedded systems and all things tech through the participation in awesome research and innovation projects;
• Perform verification & validation testing of embedded systems which will contribute to the creation of out‑of‑the‑box prototypes;
• With a keen focus on productivity, analyze, monitor and improve efficiency and stability of the systems and optimize I/O performance;
• Boost up the creative environment provided and demonstrate quickness in learning and ability to experiment cross‑cutting technologies;
