Job summary

Zühlke is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join a multicultural team across Europe. You will develop embedded software using modern C++ on STM32 microcontrollers, leveraging Zephyr RTOS, and contribute to hardware-software integration.

The role offers a hybrid work model in Porto, Portugal, with opportunities for growth within a global engineering community. You'll collaborate in an agile environment, write and run unit tests, and help ensure safety, security and quality in complex

Qualifications

• University degree in Embedded Systems or Electrical/Computer Engineering.
• Strong C++ foundation and understanding that software engineering is more than coding.
• Practical experience developing software for embedded systems.
• Experience with microcontrollers and peripherals (STM32).
• Experience with RTOS (Zephyr preferred).
• Fluency in English and ability to work in a distributed Europe team.

Responsibilities

• Write and review modern C++ code to implement new system features.
• Test features with unit tests and on hardware.
• Maintain Zephyr RTOS-based lower layers of the system.
• Investigate bugs by analysing logs and traces to root cause and fix it.
• Participate in agile meetings and program increment discussions.

The role

You'll work on a complex fire alarm system comprising over 3 microcontrollers. You'll get to work with cutting-edge technologies such as modern C++ and RTOS (Zephyr) and be responsible for building one part of the system. You'll work in a multicultural team distributed across Europe and collaborating in a hybrid work model.

How you'll make an impact

• Write and review modern C++ code to implement new system features.

What's important to us

• University degree in Embedded Systems, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field (2+ years of embedded experience required if not directly embedded-focused)
• Solid foundation in C++ and an understanding that software engineering is more than just programming
• Practical experience in development of software for embedded systems
• Experience with microcontrollers and their peripherals (STM32)
• Experience with RTOS (knowledge of Zephyr will be considered a plus)
• You understand the requirements of systems regarding security, safety and quality and can build the system so that it meets them
• Fluency in English and enjoyment of working in a team distributed across Europe.
