Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer - Floating Offshore Wind Turbine

Location: Viana do Castelo (PT)

The E&I Engineer – FOWT will lead the design and integration of electrical and instrumentation systems for Gazelle’s floating offshore wind platforms. The role ensures reliable operation of electrical components, control systems, and sensors, while meeting compliance, certification, and safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design electrical and instrumentation systems, including power distribution, controls, and communication networks.
  • Develop technical specifications, schematics, and documentation.
  • Select and specify electrical equipment, components, and instrumentation.
  • Ensure compliance with offshore regulations, certification, and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, structural, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Support procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Perform testing, troubleshooting, and optimization of systems.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies and industry best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering, preferably in renewable energy.
  • Offshore/marine project exposure highly valued.
  • Essential design experience in:
    • WTG electrical systems (generators, transformers, controls).
    • Grid connection, compliance, and certification.
    • High-voltage systems, including dynamic subsea power cables.
    • Low-voltage systems (navigation aids, lighting, alarm systems).
    • Control and instrumentation systems.
Technical Skills
  • Expertise in electrical system design and integration for offshore wind platforms.
  • Proficiency in instrumentation and sensor technologies (incl. SCADA).
  • Knowledge of grid integration, power conversion, and energy storage.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, EPLAN, and simulation tools.
  • Advanced MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Programming skills in Python and MATLAB.
Other Requirements
  • Strong grounding in power generation, transmission, and distribution.
  • Knowledge of international standards for offshore electrical systems and safety.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communicator and team collaborator.
  • Familiarity with project management principles.
  • Fluency in English (Portuguese is a plus).
General Conditions

Location: Viana do Castelo office (minimum 3 days/week, ideally 4–5).

Contract & Working Hours:

  • Permanent contract with trial period.
  • 40-hour work week.
  • 22 vacation days annually.
