Skills/Qualifications

Cumulatively, the ideal candidate should have the following scientific and academic profile:

A - Scientific Competences:

  • To be, at the deadline for submitting applications, the holder of a valid Doctoral degree, for more than 10 years in the disciplinary areas for which the competition is opened, and have the habilitation in the same area;
  • Oral and written proficiency in Portuguese (requirement to be fulfilled within the first year of contract) and English;
  • An h-index value in the SCOPUS database ≥ 30; publication of at least 140 articles in indexed scientific journals, 30 of which are in Q1/Q2 quartiles; and at least 3 registered patents;
  • Supervision or co-supervision of at least 10 doctoral theses and 15 master's dissertations; and participation in juries for at least 20 national and international doctoral defenses and at least 18 master's defenses, in the area of the open call;
  • Leadership or participation in at least 10 scientific research projects, including national and international projects or supported by private funding agencies, approved in the area of the open;

Presentation of at least 100 oral presentations at national and international conferences, including 20 by invitation, and 5 as a keynote speaker; and participation and engagement in the scientific community by serving on at least 9 scientific committees and moderating in at least 12 scientific events by invitation;

B – Pedagogic Capacity:

  • Course coordination of curricular unit(s) in 1st or 2nd cycle programs, including the coordination of an Erasmus Mundus Design Measures and a Master course, in the area of the open call;
  • Promote and provide training in pedagogical innovation, encompassing activities such as organizing study visits, creating or redesigning curricular units, and developing new laboratory protocols with the integration of new technologies in the teaching process with at least 5 publications on pedagogical topics;
  • Leadership or participation of at least 7 international scientific networks (e.g. COST Action and CYTED);

Charing, organizing or being part of the scientific committee of at least 20 national and international scientific events;

C - Competences in other activities relevant to the mission of the higher education institution

  • Be involved in academic management board positions;
  • Be involved in scientific management board positions;

Participation in international project evaluation juries at least in 5 different countries, and contributing as an associate editor for at least two Q1 journals, in the area of open call.

Eligibility criteria
  • The call aims to hire a Full Professor, with an open-ended employment contract.
  • Any Ph.D. assistant/associate professors/ researchers with Habilitation may apply for the position.
Selection process

The applications admitted to the competition will be assessed taking into account the quality, timeliness and, relevance of the scientific curriculum (scientific output and research experience suited to the strategic objectives of CBIOS and the creation of new knowledge as related to the scientific communities of CBIOS as well as the professional curriculum of the applicants, in addition to the level of adequacy to the proposed work plan.

In the selection process, the selection panel will assess the set of elements listed below on a scale of 0 to 100:

  • The scientific career of the applicant, giving particular relevance to the scientific work done or published in the last 5 years in areas relating to the work plan which is the object of the competition (up to 35% of the assessment of this stage);
  • The professional experience of the applicant, with special emphasis on the activities in the last 5 years, carried out in areas relating to the work plan which is the object of the competition (up to 55% of the assessment of this stage);
  • Cover letter in English (10% of the evaluation), to evaluate the candidate's motivation and interest for the activities to be carried out (5% of the assessment) and English proficiency (5% evaluation);
  • If the jury chooses tointerviewthe candidates,which is intended exclusively for clarification of aspects related to the results of its research (corresponding toa maximum of10% of the total evaluation), itwill be consideredup to 5 candidates from those who obtained the highest classification - in any event, only evaluations that score higher than 60% will be considered;
  • Should it be deemed necessary, the jury can ask the testimony of the leading academics mentioned in article 5, n. 5.1, paragraph d).

In case of a draw, the vote of the chairman is the tiebreaker.

After the selection stages have been concluded, the selection panel will draw up, within no more than 7 workdays, a minute which will include the final decision, a ranking of the admitted applicants with their respective final scores, as well as a brief description of the recruitment process, assessment, and selection.

The testimony of the leading academics mentioned in article 5, n. 5.1, paragraph d) can be requested to the applicant that successfully completes the recruitment process.
