Job summary

H.B. Fuller Portugal is seeking a Chief Accountant to join our Europe Record to Report team in Mindelo, Portugal. This role is responsible for preparing accurate financial and statutory reporting, ensuring compliance with local GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies.

The successful candidate will support month-end close activities, financial analysis, internal controls, and continuous process improvement in a multinational environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience in a multinational company or shared services environment.
• Experience using SAP or another ERP system.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Professional proficiency in English and authorization to work in Portugal.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly accounts in compliance with local GAAP and statutory principles and company policies.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting to Europe Accounting Team.
• Ensure financial statements give a true and fair view of the business.
• File statutory annual accounts and tax returns on time with local tax advisors.
• Handle other statutory and tax filings at company level (VAT, statistics, etc.).
• Prepare the annual 10-K and corporate tax questionnaires.
• Record RTR journal entries timely with required supporting docs.
• Perform monthly bank reconciliations and maintain documentation.
• Conduct internal controls in line with SOX requirements.
• Support RTR team with external and internal audits.

Position Overview

H.B. Fuller is seeking a Chief Accountant to join our Europe Record to Report team in Mindelo, Portugal. This role is responsible for preparing accurate financial and statutory reporting, ensuring compliance with local GAAP, tax regulations, and company policies. The successful candidate will support month-end close activities, financial analysis, internal controls, and continuous process improvement in a multinational environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly accounts in compliance with local GAAP and Statutory accounting principles and H.B. Fuller internal company policies and procedures, within the timeline set by Corporate Management Team;
• Prepare Monthly, Quarterly and Year-End Financial Reporting to Europe Accounting Team;
• Ensure that Financial Statements give a true and fair view of company’s business;
• Ensure that Statutory Annual Accounts and Tax Returns are filed in on time in cooperation with local tax advisors;
• Responsible for all Other Statutory and Tax Filings required at the company level (e.g. National Statistics questionnaires; VAT Declarations, among others);
• Elaborate the 10-K report and Corporate Tax Questionnaires annually;
• Responsible for all RTR journal entries, ensuring they are done on a timely and accurate manner, and all the supporting documentation are in place;
• Responsible for monthly Blackline account reconciliations, ensuring that all the supporting documentation is in place and the aging balance is appropriate;
• Perform the internal controls in compliance with SOX Requirements;
• Support RTR Team with the external and internal audit requests.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 3+ years of accounting experience in a multinational company or shared services environment.
• Experience using SAP or another ERP system.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Professional proficiency in English and authorization to work in Portugal.

Preferred Requirements

• Knowledge of European GAAP and statutory reporting requirements.
• Experience with SOX compliance and financial controls.
• Exposure to transfer pricing processes.
• Experience supporting finance systems improvements and process standardization.
