Job summary

Teya is expanding its Finance Operations team in Lisbon, seeking an Assistant Financial Controller to strengthen financial controls, ensure accurate reporting and support scalable processes. You will own month-end close, reconciliations, and audit preparation while partnering with internal teams and external providers.

Qualifications

• 2–3+ years' experience in Financial Control, Financial Reporting, Accounting or a similar Finance role.
• A degree in Accounting, Finance, Management or a related discipline.
• Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous experience in an audit environment, ideally with a Big Four firm or an internal audit function, is a strong advantage.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, account reconciliations and internal financial controls.
• Experience supporting month-end and year-end closing processes, preparing financial statements and maintaining accurate accounting records.
• Experience preparing audit documentation and working with external auditors or other relevant stakeholders.
• Knowledge of SAP S/4HANA is an advantage.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to investigate and resolve financial discrepancies.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to identify root causes, assess risks and recommend practical solutions.
• A proactive, organised and hands-on approach, with the ability to learn quickly, manage competing priorities and take ownership of tasks.
• Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across internal teams and external providers.

Responsibilities

• Support the Finance function and partner with teams across the business to assess financial performance, identify key business drivers and improve financial processes and controls.
• Coordinate and support month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring financial records are complete, accurate and delivered within reporting deadlines.
• Assist in preparing monthly financial reports and annual financial statements, maintaining high standards of accuracy and consistency.
• Perform and review account reconciliations to ensure the integrity of financial records, investigate variances and resolve discrepancies against expected balances and budget assumptions.
• Monitor financial data and accounting records, identifying potential errors, inconsistencies or control weaknesses and working with relevant stakeholders to implement corrective actions.
• Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations and supporting financial analyses, ensuring documentation is accurate, complete and readily available.
• Coordinate the preparation of documentation and supporting evidence for external audits, working closely with auditors and internal teams to address requests efficiently.
• Maintain accurate financial records and documentation, ensuring compliance with internal policies, accounting principles and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Work closely with internal stakeholders to gather, validate and consolidate financial information for reporting, analysis and decision-making.
• Support compliance obligations in partnership with external providers, ensuring relevant financial and statutory requirements are met accurately and on time.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen internal controls, streamline accounting processes and improve the efficiency, consistency and quality of Finance Operations.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial reporting, procedures and systems, supporting the development of scalable processes as Teya grows.
