About you
We are looking for an experienced AI QA Test Engineer, specializing in Quality Assurance and test automation, who will be crucial to strengthening Rauva’s quality assurance foundation. You will design and implement the robust, automated test harness necessary to safely enable our strategic adoption of AI-generated code, which is expected to drastically increase the velocity of code changes. This role requires a focus on reliability, auditability, and building systems that allow human reviewers to approve code changes with high confidence.
What’s the role
As an AI QA Test Engineer at Rauva, you will architect, implement, and maintain a production-grade End-to-End (E2E) test automation framework. You will work within our engineering teams to ensure 100% automated coverage of all critical user journeys across our banking applications. A key component of this role is embedding automated tests directly into our GitLab CI/CD pipelines, making them blocking quality gates, and driving down our reliance on manual testing to accelerate our release cycle time. A continuous improvement mindset will be key in evolving testing capabilities.
This role is being generated in the context of the Portuguese "IA nas PME" / "AI in SMEs" public funding programme (03/C05-i14.01/2025).
Your Responsibilities
- Contribute to the quality strategy of the products and work closely with engineering teams to define requirements
- Assist in defining effective test cases and regression coverage
- Execute structured manual test plans and document clear, reproducible results
- Screen and triage bug reports and perform pre-release testing
- Analyze logs, traces, and system behavior to help identify root causes and collaborate with developers to reproduce and isolate defects
- Support functional, API, and system-level testing efforts, including enforcing automated API contract testing and breaking-change detection for our core backend APIs (Node.js, AWS Lambda)
- Design, implement, and maintain a robust E2E test automation framework (e.g., Playwright) to achieve 100% coverage of essential business flows across the main banking web application and customer acquisition funnel, including onboarding, KYC, invoicing, payments, accounting reconciliation, and card management
- Integrate tests directly into the GitLab CI/CD pipeline, ensuring they are blocking, parallelized, and part of the MR workflows
- Implement deterministic test data management, including database seed scripts, to ensure strict test isolation for parallel MR pipelines
- Contribute to the implementation of AI-specific test capabilities, such as auditable self-healing modules or intelligent prioritization, ensuring transparency and traceability of all automatic adjustments
- Lead knowledge transfer efforts by creating runbooks, documentation, and training sessions to ensure Rauva’s engineers can independently maintain and extend the test suite
What’s your ideal background
- 4+ years of experience in Quality Assurance and test automation, or a related software engineering role, preferably in fintech, banking, or a regulated SaaS environment, with strong focus on QA best practices
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing E2E test automation frameworks using modern tools (e.g., Playwright, Cypress)
- Strong experience with CI/CD systems, ideally GitLab CI, and integrating tests as blocking quality gates
- Proficiency in relevant programming languages, such as TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python
- Experience with API testing (REST/GraphQL) and implementing contract testing frameworks is highly desirable
- Familiarity with test data isolation strategies (e.g., database seeding) using PostgreSQL or similar databases
- Experience with Agile methodologies; familiarity with Jira and Confluence is a plus
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive and hands-on, solution-oriented mindset
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, including the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
What we can offer you
- Hybrid Policy: 3 days in the office + 2 remote
- Competitive Salary above the industry average
- Meal Allowance
- Leadership Opportunities (chances to lead projects)
- Enjoy off-site events and getaways to build a strong sense of community
- Opportunities to advance within a rapidly expanding organization that aims to be present throughout Southern Europe in the very near future
If you’re driven about innovation, excel in a fast-paced startup environment, and want to be involved in impactful solutions, Rauva is the place for you. Join us in shaping the future of banking and enabling SMEs to grow and succeed across Europe.
