JobCloud HR Tech in Porto, Portugal is seeking an AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy AI-powered applications that connect language models with enterprise data, APIs, and business workflows.

You will work across teams to create robust, production-ready AI solutions, focusing on grounded AI, tool calling, and scalable architectures. The role offers hybrid work and opportunities to collaborate across offices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience delivering AI-powered applications.
• Strong Python and production software engineering skills.
• Experience with LLMs, RAG, tool calling, and AI-enabled workflows.
• Experience integrating heterogeneous enterprise data sources.
• Knowledge of authentication, authorization, privacy, and secure data handling.
• Ability to lead technical discussions with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate production AI apps connecting language models with enterprise data, APIs and workflows.
• Develop conversational and AI-assisted experiences using tool calling and structured outputs, with deterministic/workflow orchestration.
• Integrate and prepare data from APIs, databases, document stores, and event-driven systems for AI use.
• Establish automated evaluation, testing, monitoring, tracing, and safe fallback mechanisms.

We’re looking for an AI Engineer to join our cross‑functional AI Hub, working across teams and products to turn the latest advances in AI into solutions used by our customers and internal teams. In this high‑impact role, you’ll design, build and deploy AI‑powered applications and services, working with technologies such as LLMs, Generative AI, RAG and intelligent agents. You’ll experiment with new approaches, rapidly turn ideas into prototypes, and take the most promising solutions all the way into production.

WHAT WILL YOU DO IN THIS ROLE?

• Design, build, and operate production AI applications that connect language models with enterprise data, APIs, and business workflows.
• Develop conversational and AI‑assisted experiences using tool calling, structured outputs, orchestration, state management, and appropriate combinations of deterministic workflows, RAG, and agentic behavior.
• Integrate and prepare data from APIs, databases, document repositories, and event‑driven systems, ensuring it remains secure, current, and suitable for AI use.
• Establish automated evaluation, testing, monitoring, tracing, feedback, and safe fallback mechanisms covering quality, groundedness, reliability, latency, and cost.
• Collaborate with platform and security teams on deployment, CI/CD, observability, access control, privacy, auditing, and prompt‑injection defenses.
• Own technical designs, communicate trade‑offs, review code, mentor colleagues, and turn ambiguous business needs into maintainable solutions.

WHAT SKILLS & EXPERIENCE WILL HELP YOU SUCCEED?

• Strong Python and production software‑engineering skills, including backend APIs, containers, CI/CD, cloud deployment, and observability.
• Experience delivering LLM‑powered, machine‑learning, or data‑intensive applications beyond proof‑of‑concept work.
• Experience integrating heterogeneous enterprise data sources and building reliable data‑preparation and synchronization workflows.
• Practical experience with grounded AI applications, tool or function calling, structured outputs, and evaluation of nondeterministic systems.
• Understanding of authentication, authorization, privacy, and secure data handling.
• Sound architectural judgment and the ability to lead technical discussions with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
