Planet is actively scaling AI-first engineering and seeking a Senior AI Developer Experience Engineer to lead hands-on coaching and enablement across engineering teams. You will deliver AI Fluency sessions, pair with developers, and help adopt internal AI tools and workflows to boost delivery effectiveness.

You will collaborate with Architecture and Platform teams to ensure alignment with standards while creating practical guides and learning materials for broad engineering use.

Role Overview

Planet is scaling AI-first engineering across its technology organisation, and the AI Enablement team is helping turn that ambition into day-to-day reality. We are looking for Senior AI Developer Experience Engineers to join the team and help drive adoption across Engineering. This is a hands-on role focused on AI Fluency, developer experience, internal enablement tooling, and measurable improvement across the software delivery lifecycle.

You will work closely with teams across Engineering, partnering directly with developers, QAs, product owners, scrum masters, business analysts, and managers to help them adopt better ways of working with AI. This is not a role from the sidelines. You will spend time with teams, understand where they struggle, coach them in practical contexts, and help embed better habits into real delivery work.

We are looking for people with strong engineering foundations who also bring a strong human touch. You should be someone who communicates clearly, builds trust easily, works well with different personalities, and knows how to bring people with you. Success in this role depends as much on credibility with engineers as it does on your ability to explain, facilitate, coach, and create momentum across the organisation.

You will help enable more than 300 engineers, alongside a broader set of SDLC roles, through structured AI Fluency sessions, hands-on pairing, internal agents and workflows, reusable guidance, and support for priority initiatives. Over time, the role will also help drive adoption of broader platform and toolchain capabilities that improve engineering effectiveness across Planet.

What You'll Do

• Deliver AI Fluency sessions across Engineering and SDLC roles, from prompt engineering fundamentals to more advanced agentic coding workflows and practical AI-first ways of working
• Work closely with teams across Engineering, building strong relationships, understanding where they struggle, and helping them adopt AI and better workflows in a practical, team-friendly way
• Pair directly with developers and teams to improve adoption in real delivery work, helping them use tools such as GitHub Copilot, Copilot CLI, internal AI agents, workflow automations, and related capabilities effectively and responsibly.
• Help maintain and improve internal enablement tooling, including AI agents, automations, templates, prompts, workflows, and supporting assets used across the organisation.
• Create high-quality enablement content, including guides, templates, examples, recorded sessions, best practices, and role-specific learning material that teams can actually use.
• Assess and track AI maturity across teams using Planet’s AI Fluency model, helping identify where support is needed and where stronger patterns can be scaled.
• Support priority initiatives with dedicated AI-first coaching, helping delivery teams apply better workflows, better prompting, and more effective use of internal tools in live projects.
• Collaborate closely with Architecture and Platform teams so enablement stays aligned with engineering standards, platform capabilities, system landscape, and the way Planet builds software.
• Capture adoption signals, usage insights, and learning feedback, and feed these into the AI Centre of Excellence and broader leadership reporting.
• Over time, help expand enablement beyond AI tooling into broader developer experience and platform adoption across the engineering toolchain.

Who You Are

• Strong software engineering background, with experience building or maintaining production systems and a solid understanding of the full SDLC.
• Hands‑on experience with AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Copilot CLI, Cursor, Cody, Claude Code, or similar.
• Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly, run hands‑on workshops, and adapt your style to different audiences across Engineering.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine human touch. You build trust, work well with different personalities, and enjoy helping teams improve in a practical and collaborative way.
• Credibility with engineers. You are comfortable pairing with developers, discussing implementation trade‑offs, and helping teams improve how they work in practice.
• Experience creating strong technical content such as guides, tutorials, documentation, or internal learning material.
• A genuine interest in developer experience, engineering productivity, and helping teams adopt better ways of working.

Nice to Have

• Experience in developer experience, developer enablement, developer advocacy, or internal technical coaching.
• Understanding of enterprise engineering environments, including APIs, system design patterns, CI/CD, observability, infrastructure, and engineering governance.
• Strong understanding of prompt design, LLM capabilities, agentic workflows, and practical AI usage patterns in software engineering.
• Experience defining or tracking adoption metrics, maturity models, developer productivity indicators, or ROI‑oriented enablement measures.
• Experience with workflow automation and internal tooling, including platforms such as N8N or similar.
• Familiarity with fintech, payments, or regulated engineering environments.
