Job summary

Berks County Intermediate Unit in Berks County seeks a Van Driver to provide safe, timely transportation for students served by the BCIU. This part-time, split-shift role requires punctuality, attention to safety, and the ability to follow established routes and stops.

You will perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections, report unusual student behavior, and record hours on timesheets. Applicants must hold a PA Driver's License, CPR/First Aid, pass the school bus physical, and pass drug

Qualifications

• Van Driver must have a current PA Driver's License.
• Must hold Red Cross First Aid Course and CPR Certificate.
• Must pass the non-school bus driver's physical examination.
• Able to identify geographic areas as required.
• Must pass negative drug/alcohol screenings.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate BCIU vehicles as required by IU procedures, federal, state, and local laws and ordinances.
• Inspect the vehicle at the end of each run to ensure no children are left on the vehicle.
• Complete and document the pre-trip and post-trip inspection.
• Document and notify supervisor of unusual student behavior and/or concern about a child's welfare, unless otherwise instructed.
• Maintain approved time schedule using only Transportation Office established routes and designated stops and accurately record actual hours worked on timesheets.

Summary of position

: The van driver renders safe, timely and cost efficient transportation services to the schools served by the Berks County Intermediate Unit.

Schedule:

Part-time, split shift a.m. and p.m., average 20-25 hours/week

2026 - 2027 Salary:

$21.40/hour
Depending on availability of van driver positions, the successful candidate will serve as a bus assistant.

Districts served:

Antietam School District, 10 months/year
Muhlenberg School District, 10 months/year

Other program served:

Early Intervention, 10 months (stretched over 12 months/year)
Head Start, 10 months/year
Special Needs, 10 months/year
