Job summary

Opole University of Technology invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher in environmental engineering, mining and energy. The successful candidate will conduct advanced research and build international scientific collaborations.

Responsibilities include energy and water management research, energy efficiency analyses, project proposals, and publishing in top journals; collaboration with industry partners and dissemination at conferences.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Environmental Engineering, Mining and Power Engineering, chemistry or related field.
• Experience at a university abroad as research or teaching staff.
• Experience in scientific collaboration with recognized research institutions.
• Publication record with at least one article in a top-quartile journal (JCR).
• Experience in energy management in water and wastewater utilities.
• Knowledge of small-scale hydropower and wastewater-derived energy sources.
• Experience with power supply security for critical infrastructure.
• Experience in project management.

Offer Description

T he successful candidate will conduct advanced research in the field of environmental engineering, mining and energy.

Particular emphasis will be placed on: (a) energy use in water and wastewater management; (b) energy efficiency and energy management in water utilities; (c) small-scale hydropower and hydraulic energy recovery in water supply systems; (d) energy production from wastewater-derived biogas; (e) distributed energy generation; and (f) the energy security and autonomy of critical water and wastewater infrastructure, including resilience to blackout events.

The role also involves building and maintaining international scientific collaborations and cooperation with industrial partners from the energy, and waste‑water sectors, in line with circular‑economy principles.

Main Research Tasks

• conducting scientific research in the fields of energy and water and wastewater management;
• conducting analyses of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, and the security of power supply to critical infrastructure;
• participating in research projects and preparing project proposals;
• analysing research results and preparing scientific publications;
• presenting research findings at conferences and collaborating with research teams and industry partners;
• carrying out other scientific and organisational duties related to the activities of the unit.

Skills/Qualifications

Required qualifications and experience:

• At least a doctoral degree in the discipline of Environmental Engineering, Mining and Power Engineering,chemistry or a related discipline.
• Experience working as a research or research and teaching staff member at a university abroad;
• Experience in scientific collaboration with recognized research institutions;
• A publication record including at least one article authored or co-authored by the candidate in a journal ranked in the first quartile (Q1) by Journal Impact Factor in Journal Citation Reports (JCR), in at least one of the following research areas: Environmental Science & Engineering, Energy Science & Engineering, Water Resources, or Multidisciplinary Sciences;
• Experience in energy management in the water and wastewater sector, particularly energy efficiency and energy management in water and wastewater utilities;
• Knowledge of small-scale hydropower, the use of hydraulic energy in water supply systems, and the use of biogas from wastewater treatment plants for energy generation;
• Experience with the security of power supply for water and wastewater infrastructure, including blackouts, distributed generation, and the energy self-sufficiency of critical infrastructure facilities;
• Experience in managing projects;

Professional experience in water and wastewater utilities involving the delivery of water and wastewater management tasks will be an additional asset.

Required languages: English or Polish (at excellent level).
