Job summary

Lever, Inc. is seeking an Ambulance and NEMT Billing Coding Specialist to support the revenue cycle for emergency and nonemergency medical transportation services. The role reviews transport documentation, confirms patient and payer information, resolves documentation gaps, and prepares accurate claims through intake to submission.

Must have extensive Traumsasoft experience. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, capable of working independently, and able to collaborate with billing

Qualifications

• Two or more years of EMS, ambulance, NEMT, medical billing, or related revenue-cycle experience.
• Working knowledge of insurance verification and payer portals.
• Ability to read complex transport and clinical documents for accuracy.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review ambulance and NEMT transport records for completeness, accuracy, medical-necessity support, and consistency across records and billing systems.
• Verify patient demographics, insurance eligibility, payer order, transport type, service level, origin and destination, mileage, authorization or reference numbers, and other required billing information.
• Prepare and code claims according to procedures and payer requirements (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial, managed transport, facility, self-pay).
• Confirm that required documents are attached (facesheets, certifications, signatures, logs, authorizations, vouchers, approvals).
• Identify incomplete documentation, log issues, and request corrections from the appropriate party.
• Review ePCRs for consistency in personnel, times, mileage, patient info, narratives, and billing indicators.
• Escalate clinical, payer, or compliance questions when unclear and follow addendum procedures.
• Enter or import transports into billing platform, update claim statuses, submit claims, and maintain queues.
• Track rejected/denied/partial claims; research causes and route accordingly; communicate barriers.
• Perform provider signer checks and use approved sources for compliance checks.
• Maintain production and documentation logs; help identify trends affecting clean claims and reimbursement.
• Provide documented feedback and assist with staff training when requested.
• Protect patient and company information per HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
• Support billing-office communications and cross-coverage; perform related duties.
