Job summary

Whizz offers a fully remote Tech Lead role aligned to New York time (EST/EDT). You will own architecture and code quality across the PHP core, billing, ERP, client area, the mobile app and the People platform, reviewing every change before production and shaping the database design.

In a hands-on capacity you lead a small engineering team, translate product requirements into technical tasks, mentor backend, frontend and mobile developers, and drive AI-assisted development with clear guardrails.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in backend development.
• 2+ years leading a team.
• Daily use of AI development tools and writing agent instructions for a team.
• Code review as a daily discipline: catching logic, data-safety and security bugs.

Responsibilities

• Own the architecture and technical roadmap of all Whizz systems.
• Review every pull request before merge and maintain a clear review standard.
• Design and maintain the database architecture across MySQL and PostgreSQL.
• Own Docker images, deployments and environments.
• Drive AI-assisted development across the team with agent instructions, prompts, and rules for reviewing AI-generated code.
• Turn product requirements into technical tasks and mentor backend, frontend and mobile developers.
• Lead incident response and ship root-cause fixes.
