Job summary

Cleeng is seeking a backend PHP engineer toDesign, build, and maintain features in our Core Platform (PHP 8.4, Laminas Mezzio, Doctrine, MySQL) with AI-first coding practices.

You will work in a remote-first, international team, collaborating on REST APIs, automated tests with PHPUnit, and gradual modernization of legacy code while owning features end-to-end. This role supports remote/hybrid arrangements depending on location in Poland.

Qualifications

• AI-first engineering practice with daily use of AI coding assistants.
• Strong PHP 8.x experience with OOP and SOLID design.
• Experience with a mainstream PHP framework and Doctrine ORM.
• MySQL query optimization.
• REST API design and automated testing with PHPUnit; TDD mindset.
• Ability to navigate and refactor large legacy codebases with AI assistance.
• Own features from ticket to production with a focus on quality and reliability.
• Clear written communication in a remote-first, agile team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend features in Core Platform (PHP 8.4, Laminas Mezzio, Doctrine, MySQL) and expose them through REST APIs, using AI-first approaches.
• Work AI-first, daily — use AI coding agents for implementation, test generation, refactoring, and navigating legacy code.
• Improve agent context (docs, conventions, tests, tooling, agent instructions) to speed up shipping.
• Stay the engineer in the loop — own correctness, design quality, and security of merges; strong code reviews.
• Own deployments with dashboards and alerts; monitor and support operational health of the domain.
• Contribute to platform modernization through incremental refactoring and removal of legacy components.
• Collaborate in a remote-first, international team with QA on shift-left and AI-assisted tests.
