Job summary

Cleeng is seeking an experienced backend engineer to design, build, and maintain core platform features using PHP 8.4, Laminas Mezzio, and Doctrine. You will work AI-first, leveraging coding agents to implement, test, refactor, and navigate a large legacy codebase while upholding security and quality.

This role supports a remote-first, international team with a focus on scalable, reliable APIs. You will own features end-to-end, monitor dashboards, respond to incidents, and contribute to platform

Qualifications

• AI-first engineering experience with real coding agent workflows.
• Proficient PHP 8.x with strong OOP and SOLID design judgment.
• Experience with a mainstream PHP framework and Doctrine ORM.
• MySQL query optimization and REST API design with PHPUnit + TDD.
• Ability to operate independently in a remote-first, agile team.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend features in the Core Platform (PHP 8.4, Laminas Mezzio, Doctrine, MySQL) and expose them through REST APIs — with AI-first as the default approach.
• Work AI-first daily — use coding agents for implementation, tests, refactoring, and navigating legacy codebases.
• Improve agent context (docs, tests, tooling) to speed up shipping across squads.
• Own correctness, design quality, and security of merges; conduct strong code reviews.
• Launch features with dashboards and alerts, monitor health, and aid in incident triage with AI aids.
• Contribute to platform modernization through incremental refactoring and removing legacy components.
• Collaborate in a remote-first, international team through code reviews and design discussions.
