Job summary

Vonage is seeking a Staff Engineer to shape the architecture of our cloud-native platform and to influence engineering culture across the RNE group within Foundation Engineering. You will drive architectural decisions for scalable, highly concurrent backend systems and mentor engineers at all levels.

You will collaborate with product leadership to align technical strategy with business goals and contribute to on-call coverage as needed.

Qualifications

• Extensive programming experience in Go (Golang) or JVM technologies with Go adoption.
• Extensive experience developing and maintaining enterprise-grade systems at scale.
• Deep expertise in highly concurrent, distributed architectures and systems.
• Experience leading architectural decisions at team and cross-team levels.
• Prior experience as Team Lead/Tech Lead with mentoring background.
• Experience with containerised apps and cloud-native infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and vision for highly concurrent backend systems.
• Drive architectural decisions ensuring scalability, reliability and maintainability.
• Lead performance optimisation initiatives and resolve complex system-level challenges.
• Set coding standards and engineering best practices across the team.
• Mentor and grow engineers at all levels within the group.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to align tech strategy with business goals.
• Provide on-call support as part of a rota.
