Job summary

Vonage is seeking a Staff Engineer in the RNE group within Foundation Engineering to shape the architecture of our cloud-native platform and guide engineering culture. You will provide technical leadership across highly concurrent backend systems, drive architectural decisions, and mentor engineers while collaborating with product leadership to align tech strategy with business goals.

On-call duties included.

Qualifications

• Extensive programming experience in Go or JVM (Java/Spring Boot).
• Experience building enterprise-scale, highly concurrent systems.
• Deep expertise in distributed architectures and systems.
• Led architectural decisions and mentored engineers.
• Experience with containerised apps and cloud-native infra.
• Strong communication to align tech with business goals.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the design and development of highly concurrent, distributed backend systems.
• Drive architectural decisions to ensure scalability, reliability and maintainability.
• Lead performance optimisation initiatives and resolve complex system-level challenges.
• Set testing standards including unit, integration and smoke tests for automated production promotion.
• Define, evolve and enforce coding standards and engineering best practices.
• Act as a technical mentor and leader, supporting engineers across all levels.
• Collaborate with product and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business goals.
• Provide out-of-hours support as part of an on-call rota.
