Job summary

Vonage is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to shape the architecture of our cloud-native platform and lead backend initiatives at scale. You will own significant architectural decisions, drive performance optimisations, and mentor engineers across teams.

Remote-friendly role in Poland with strong Go or JVM stack experience, containerized deployments, and deep database knowledge. You will collaborate with product and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business goals.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in Go (Golang) or Java/Spring Boot within enterprise-grade systems.
• Deep expertise in highly concurrent, distributed architectures and scalable backends.
• Proven track record leading architectural decisions and mentoring engineers.
• Experience with containerized apps and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes).

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for the design and development of highly concurrent, distributed backend systems.
• Drive and own architectural decisions to ensure scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Lead performance profiling and optimisation initiatives across services and deployments.
• Set coding standards and engineering best practices; promote automated testing and CI/CD.
• Mentor engineers across levels and collaborate with product and tech leadership to align strategy.
• Support on-call duties and contribute to cross-team technical initiatives.
