SRE Engineering Team Lead — Observability & Reliability

Job summary

SmartRecruiters is seeking an Engineering Team Lead that specializes in SRE. You will help keep production reliable, scalable, and secure, with 60% hands-on contribution and 40% managerial activities.

You will collaborate with Java, Python and Node.js engineers across R&D to pursue highly available systems, lead incident response, and drive observability, reliability standards, and DevOps culture. Mentoring and technical vision are key.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in SRE/DevOps or related role.
• Working knowledge of SRE and observability standards (SLIs/SLOs, incident management, on-call).
• Experience with AWS or GCP, Kubernetes, and IaC tools; familiarity with monitoring tooling.
• Linux operating system troubleshooting and performance tuning.
• Scripting skills in Bash, Go or Python.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Ability to coach developers and lead large-scale reliability initiatives.
• JVM development experience is a plus; knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Improve, automate and grow observability and reliability tooling.
• Advocate for modern SRE practices and incident response.
• Collaborate with JVM and Node.js/Python engineers to ensure highly available systems.
• Respond to production incidents, lead remediation and follow-up improvements.
• Document standards, best practices, and reliability policies.
• Lead SRE initiatives and drive DevOps culture across the organization.
• Provide technical vision and mentor the engineering team.
