Job summary

SmartRecruiters is seeking an Engineering Team Lead that specializes in SRE. You will help keep production reliable, scalable, and secure, with 60% hands-on contribution and 40% managerial activities.

You will collaborate with Java, Python and Node.js engineers across R&D to pursue highly available systems, lead incident response, and drive observability, reliability standards, and DevOps culture. Mentoring and technical vision are key.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional experience in SRE/DevOps or related role.
• Working knowledge of SRE and observability standards (SLIs/SLOs, incident management, on-call).
• Experience with AWS or GCP, Kubernetes, and IaC tools; familiarity with monitoring tooling.
• Linux operating system troubleshooting and performance tuning.
• Scripting skills in Bash, Go or Python.
• Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
• Ability to coach developers and lead large-scale reliability initiatives.
• JVM development experience is a plus; knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing) is a plus.

Job Description

The SmartRecruiters is looking for an Engineering Team Lead that specializes in SRE. If you are passionate about keeping production up and running in a great manner, we have a spot with your name on it!

In this role you can expect spending 60% of the time on hands‑on contribution, 40% for managerial activities.

You will:

• Improve, automate and grow SmartRecruiters observability and reliability tooling
• Be an advocate for modern SRE practices
• Partner with Java, Python and Node.js engineers across R&D department to pursue highly available and reliable systems
• Respond to production incidents and client threats, lead remediation, and drive follow‑up improvements
• Document standards, best practices, and policies for monitoring, alerting, incident response, and reliability
• Leading SRE-related initiatives across SmartRecruiters
• Refine and drive DevOps culture for the whole organization
• Provide technical vision and leadership for the team
• Mentor and coach members of the engineering team

Qualifications

• While not strictly required, most of our Team Leads have 7+ years of professional experience
• Working knowledge of SRE and observability industry standards and best practices (SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident management, on‑call)
• Solid experience with AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, IaC tools and practices, monitoring tools (ELK stack), running and troubleshooting distributed applications
• Knowledge of the Linux operating system, with a focus on troubleshooting performance issues
• Very good scripting skills (Bash, Golang or Python)
• Strong communication skills, with a good understanding of English, both verbal and written
• Ability to coach and influence developers, lead company‑wide initiatives, guide high‑performing team of SRE engineers
• Commercial software development experience in JVM stack is a plus
• Understanding of networking standards, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN and load balancing is a plus
