Job summary

SmartRecruiters is looking for an Engineering Team Lead specializing in SRE to keep production up and running in a great manner. You will spend about 60% of your time on hands-on contribution and 40% on managerial activities.

You will improve observability tooling, advocate modern SRE practices, and partner with Java, Python, and Node.js engineers to build highly available systems. Mentoring, documenting standards, and driving DevOps culture are core parts of the role.

Qualifications

• Experience with SRE and observability standards (SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident management, on-call).
• Cloud and container tooling: AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, IaC.
• Linux proficiency, with troubleshooting performance issues.
• Scripting: Bash, Python, or Go.
• Strong communication skills in English; capability to coach and influence teams.

Job description

In this role you can expect spending 60% of the time on hands‑on contribution, 40% for managerial activities.

You will:

• Improve, automate and grow SmartRecruiters observability and reliability tooling
• Be an advocate for modern SRE practices
• Partner with Java, Python and Node.js engineers across R&D department to pursue highly available and reliable systems
• Respond to production incidents and client threats, lead remediation, and drive follow‑up improvements
• Document standards, best practices, and policies for monitoring, alerting, incident response, and reliability
• Leading SRE-related initiatives across SmartRecruiters
• Refine and drive DevOps culture for the whole organization
• Provide technical vision and leadership for the team
• Mentor and coach members of the engineering team

While not strictly required, most of our Team Leads have 7+ years of professional experience

• Working knowledge of SRE and observability industry standards and best practices (SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident management, on‑call)
• Solid experience with AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, IaC tools and practices, monitoring tools (ELK stack), running and troubleshooting distributed applications
• Knowledge of the Linux operating system, with a focus on troubleshooting performance issues
• Very good scripting skills (Bash, Golang or Python)
• Strong communication skills, with a good understanding of English, both verbal and written
• Ability to coach and influence developers, lead company‑wide initiatives, guide high‑performing team of SRE engineers
• Commercial software development experience in JVM stack is a plus
• Understanding of networking standards, including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN and load balancing is a plus
