Job summary

Elastic in Poland is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. You’ll lead initiatives for a fast, highly relevant search experience, contribute to new features, and fix complex bugs with scalable Java code. You’ll collaborate with a globally distributed team and contribute to vector search capabilities and AI-aided development.

You will design, implement, and mentor, while pushing for performance and robustness in a modern, open-source workflow.

Qualifications

• Professional experience with search or vector databases (e.g., HNSW, IVF) at scale.
• Strong Java skills; knowledge of standard data structures and concurrency; familiarity with lambdas.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to deliver a fast, relevant search engine with scalable code.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch by building new search features and fixing bugs, while making the code easier to understand.
• Invent or implement a new algorithm or data structure when needed; optimize near the OS/hardware level when required.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focusing on vector search capabilities and Elasticsearch relevance.
• Identify and drive improvements in search relevance based on questions and instincts.
• Work with open-source community members on issues and PRs, triaging or handling them as needed.
• Write idiomatic modern Java (Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java).
