Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search Relevance team. The role focuses on delivering a robust search experience, including Lucene enhancements, with a globally distributed engineering team.

You will contribute to design, implement new features, and resolve challenging bugs to improve speed and relevance. The ideal candidate brings deep Java expertise, experience with vector databases, and a proven ability to work autonomously within distributed teams,

Qualifications

• Experience with search or vector databases at scale.
• Proficiency in core Java and concurrency.
• Ability to work autonomously and lead projects from start to finish.
• Strong collaboration skills, including asynchronous communication.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch/Solr and SQL/NoSQL databases.
• Proven track record of using AI to accelerate development and debugging.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to deliver industry-leading search with high speed and relevance.
• Build new search features and fix complex bugs; sometimes design new algorithms.
• Work with distributed team focusing on vector search capabilities.
• Be an expert on Elasticsearch search relevance and drive improvements.
• Collaborate across functions and handle issues via PRs and peer review.
• Write idiomatic Java; contribute to code readability and maintainability.
