Job summary

Elastic in Poland is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for the Elasticsearch vector search team. You will design and implement new vector search features, enhance existing algorithms, and tackle challenging bugs at scale.

You will work with a globally distributed team, contribute across the codebase, and mentor others. Proficiency in Java and experience with AI-assisted development are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Experience with vector similarity and vector databases.
• Strong core Java skills and knowledge of data structures.
• Ability to design and own project components end-to-end.
• Experience collaborating across distributed teams and over the internet.
• Experience using AI to accelerate development and debugging.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch, Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB and Cassandra.

Responsibilities

• Lead vector search initiatives to deliver fast, relevant search.
• Build new search features and fix bugs; may implement new algorithms or data structures.
• Work with a globally distributed team on vector search capabilities.
• Be the expert on Elasticsearch vector similarity for search relevance.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and PRs.
• Write idiomatic modern Java (Elasticsearch is 99.8% Java).
