Job summary

HSBC Holdings plc in Kraków is seeking a Senior Product Controller for Global Markets Product Control. You will ensure accounting policies and P&L/balance sheet are accurate, perform daily and monthly reconciliations, and partner with senior stakeholders across Product Control, IT, Operations, Change and the Business.

Responsibilities include producing daily P&L for specific trading desks, validating P&L attribution, analysing revenues, and supporting month-end close with GL balances.

Qualifications

• Experience in product control or a similar role within the financial markets industry.
• Strong knowledge of financial markets, products, lifecycle, pricing, valuation, trading operations, and accounting principles.
• Proven ability to perform P&L analysis, balance sheet reconciliations or financial reporting.
• Familiarity with financial regulations and accounting controls.
• Robust problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Clear communication and collaboration with stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Produce daily Profit & Loss for specified Global Markets desks and resolve variances with Front Office traders and sales managers.
• Verify Profit & Loss attribution across market effects, new trades, time effects, and other pricing components.
• Analyze daily trading and sales revenues and prepare commentary on key drivers, activity, exposures and market context.
• Compare monthly Profit & Loss to General Ledger balances and explain variations.
• Oversee month-end General Ledger close and substantiate the balance sheet for trading and non-trading activity.
• Represent Product Control in meetings and present outcomes to senior management and key stakeholders.
• Review performance and trading activity to identify anomalies and potential risks or fraudulent activity.
• Improve Product Control processes through automation and mentorship of junior colleagues.

Global Markets Product Control sits within Global Banking and Markets Finance and is responsible for the production and independent validation of Global Markets’ profit and loss and balance sheet. As a Senior Product Controller you’ll ensure accounting policies are applied consistently and trading portfolios are appropriately valued. The role involves daily and monthly P&L and balance sheet reconciliations, substantiation and reporting while partnering closely with senior stakeholders across Product Control, IT, Operations, Change and the Business.

What you’ll do

• Produce daily Profit & Loss for specific Global Markets trading desks and resolve variances with Front Office traders and sales managers
• Verify Profit & Loss attribution across market effects, new trades, time effects and other pricing and valuation components
• Analyse daily trading and sales revenues and prepare clear commentary covering key drivers, activity, exposures and market context
• Compare monthly Profit & Loss to General Ledger balances and explain any variations
• Oversee month-end General Ledger closure and substantiate the balance sheet to support accurate accounting of trading and non-trading activity
• Represent Product Control in meetings, provide insight on periodic movements and present outcomes to senior management and key stakeholders
• Review performance and trading activity to identify anomalies and escape potential risks or fraudulent activity
• Improve Product Control processes through automation and best practices and support onboarding and mentoring of junior colleagues

What you need to have to succeed in this role

• Bring proven experience in product control or a similar role within the financial markets industry
• Apply strong knowledge of financial markets and products including lifecycle, pricing and valuation, trading operations, Profit & Loss analysis, risk management and accounting principles
• Demonstrate experience in Profit & Loss analysis, balance sheet reconciliations or financial reporting
• Use working knowledge of financial regulations and accounting principles in a controlled environment
• Solve problems effectively and investigate discrepancies with minimal supervision when needed
• Interpret financial data accurately with strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Communicate clearly and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels
• Use advanced MS Excel and contribute to process optimisation and automation

The pay range for this role is 10734 PLN - 13000 PLN (monthly, gross).

Variable pay is discretionary, but influenced by Group performance, business/function performance and individual performance.
