Job summary

Surfshark is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to scale Ironwall, focusing on distributed systems, resilience, and ownership of high-impact initiatives. You will design core services, improve performance, and help evolve the backend stack across ecosystems.

You will work with PHP 8.x, Go or Node.js/TypeScript, and relational databases, driving secure, scalable solutions with strong testing and deployment practices.

Qualifications

• Strong backend experience with scalable production applications.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and service-oriented architectures.
• Proficient in relational DBs (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and caching strategies (Redis).
• Ability to drive projects from concept to deployment and mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Partner with product managers to translate requirements into scalable technical designs.
• Architect and maintain high-traffic backend services with focus on reliability and security.
• Lead technical decision-making across services, domains, and pipelines.
• Identify bottlenecks, optimize queries, and design robust distributed workflows.
• Enforce quality through automated tests, CI/CD, and reviews.
• Own end-to-end initiatives from RFCs to observability and post-launch stability.
