Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team. You will design and implement advanced vector search features, enhancing vector similarity within Elasticsearch and contributing to Lucene.

You will work with a globally distributed team of experts, focusing on speed, relevance, and robust software design. Proficiency in Java and collaboration across time zones is essential to succeed in this role.

Qualifications

• Implemented novel techniques in vector similarity on a search platform with a large user base or progressed the field of academic research in vector similarity information retrieval.
• Professional experience with vector similarity and vector databases, and you used HNSW, IVF, or other relevant algorithms and libraries on search platforms at scale.
• You have strong skills in core Java and are conversant in the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as other features like lambdas.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives to produce an industry-leading vector database offering with high speed and relevance in search.
• Build new search features and fix bugs, improving code readability and introducing efficient algorithms or data structures.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities in Elasticsearch.
• Be the subject-matter expert on vector similarity and search relevance, driving improvements.
