Job summary

WP Engine, a leading WordPress technology company, is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to own data assets for Finance. You’ll design dbt models, build pipelines to BigQuery on a Kubernetes-based platform, and lead cross-functional data initiatives that power revenue, subscriptions, and financial reporting.

You’ll work across time zones and cultures, applying engineering best practices and embracing AI-assisted coding tools to move fast yet maintain rigor.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in data/analytics engineering or similar roles.
• Experience with dbt, tests, macros, incremental models.
• Expert SQL for large datasets.
• Strong data modeling: grain, conformed dims, F/SCDs.
• Production ETL/ELT pipelines in Python.
• Experience with BigQuery and cost/performance.
• Docker and Git/CI/CD workflows.
• Ability to work with AI-assisted coding tools.
• Experience modeling financial data (billing, subscriptions, revenue).
• Excellent cross-team communication and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve dbt models in UAM to deliver clean, tested assets.
• Write and optimize complex SQL for transformation and reconciliation.
• Build end-to-end data pipelines to BigQuery on Kubernetes-based ETL platform.
• Monitor pipelines, diagnose root causes, implement durable fixes.
• Lead multi-sprint data initiatives; scope, plan, produce.
• Collaborate with Finance, BI, analysts to translate reporting needs into data solutions.
• Ensure data assets are traceable and well-documented; support AI workflows.
• Mentor engineers on code review, modeling quality, testing and readability.
• Apply Claude Code in daily workflow with critical judgement.
• Contribute to docs, runbooks, ADRs, and ceremonies.
