Job summary

WP Engine is seeking a Senior Data Engineer to lead the modeling and implementation of financial data assets within the Unified Analytics Model. You will design grain and history rules, own data pipelines, and partner with Finance, BI, and product teams to deliver reliable data solutions.

Responsibilities include building robust dbt models, optimizing SQL, and deploying pipelines on Kubernetes-based platforms.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of data engineering / analytics engineering experience.
• Strong production experience with dbt - models, tests, and incremental strategies.
• Expert SQL for large datasets and complex queries.
• Deep data modeling expertise: grains, conformed dimensions, slowly changing dimensions.
• Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines in Python, with CI/CD.
• Hands-on experience with a cloud data warehouse, preferably BigQuery.
• Experience with Docker and containerization.
• Fluent Git/CI/CD workflows and code review practices.
• Experience with AI-assisted coding environments (Claude Code or similar).
• Experience modeling financial data for reporting (billing, payments, revenue).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and evolve dbt models in the Unified Analytics Model (UAM) for financial data assets.
• Write and optimize complex SQL for transformation, validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting.
• Build end-to-end data pipelines loading data into BigQuery on Google Cloud Platform.
• Monitor pipelines, perform root cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.
• Lead multi-sprint data initiatives across the team and collaborate with Finance, BI, and product managers.
• Build reconciliation and validation into data products to ensure traceability to source systems.
• Maintain metadata across pipelines and data models for human and AI-driven use.
• Mentor engineers on code reviews and best practices; drive quality and readability.
