Hitachi Energy seeks an experienced R&D Software Developer focused on C++ application development in Kraków. You will build high-performance, real-time software with modern C++17/20, emphasizing reliability and long product lifecycles.

Responsibilities include optimizing latency, designing scalable multithreaded systems, and collaborating across engineering, product, and business teams to turn requirements into robust architectural solutions.

Qualifications

• ,8+ years of experience in senior technical roles.
• Advanced proficiency in modern C++ (C++17/20) with RAII, smart pointers, STL, concurrency, and memory management.
• Practical knowledge of C# development is a plus.
• Strong experience with multithreading, synchronization primitives, asynchronous I/O and real-time system design.
• Proficiency with building systems (CMake, Visual Studio) and cross-platform development for Windows and Linux.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture patterns.
• Demonstrated experience with performance profiling, optimization, and low-latency systems.
• Understanding of software architecture principles and secure, scalable system design.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to tackle complex technical challenges.
• Good understanding of unit and integration testing techniques and testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, security).
• Practical experience developing systems for power grid management and monitoring.
• Understanding of power grid operations and applicable standards.
• Experience with industrial automation systems (SCADA, IED, RTU) in plus.
• Experience with industrial protocols and standards (IEC-60870-5-104, DNP3, OPC UA, IEEE C37.118) in plus.
• Practical experience working directly with power grid industry clients.
• Proven ability to translate customer requirements into clear technical designs.
• Effective team player with strong communication skills and willingness to learn.
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Develop high-performance, real-time C++ software for critical systems.
• Profile threading behavior, minimize lock contention, and optimize latency.
• Collaborate on system design, reviews, and roadmaps with stakeholders.
• Maintain code quality through reviews, testing, and best practices.
• Support cross-platform build and deployment on Linux/Windows.
• Drive modernization of build systems and secure software supply chain practices.
• Contribute to architecture decisions and feature refactoring initiatives.
• Translate customer requirements into concrete technical designs.
• Work within an agile team and expand technical domain knowledge.
