Job summary

Jit Team in Poland is seeking an experienced back-end engineer to join a mature, self-organised agile team. You will design and build serverless, event-driven services on AWS, focusing on consolidation of tracking channels and scalable APIs.

You will optimise PostgreSQL performance, improve AWS architecture for cost and resilience, and contribute to architecture discussions while maintaining high-quality tests and observability. English is used daily in an international environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years back-end development experience with Python or Scala.
• 5+ years hands-on AWS experience in production.
• Experience with AWS services: API Gateway, Step Functions, ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Kinesis and/or MSK (Kafka).
• Knowledge of RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and S3.
• Strong understanding of event-driven architecture, message processing, idempotency, retries, dead-letter queues and schema evolution.

Project

Join a mature, self-organised agile team responsible for customer-facing tracking products. The project focuses on consolidating tracking channels into a single customer entry point, introducing new customer notifications and scaling event-driven APIs.

Responsibilities

Design, develop and optimise serverless and event-driven backend services on AWS.

Improve AWS architecture in terms of cost, performance, scalability and resilience.

Optimise event stream processing, including throughput, latency, message ordering, retries and error handling.

Improve PostgreSQL performance through query optimisation, indexing, partitioning and data modelling.

Implement observability solutions, including metrics, distributed tracing, alerting and SLOs.

Ensure code quality through unit and integration testing, as well as load and performance testing.

Contribute to architectural discussions and evaluate technical trade-offs.

Expected competences and knowledge

5+ years of back-end development experience with Python or Scala.

5+ years of hands-on AWS experience in production.

Experience with AWS services: API Gateway, Step Functions, ECS/Fargate, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, Kinesis and/or Amazon MSK (Kafka).

Knowledge of RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and S3.

Strong understanding of event-driven architecture, message processing, idempotency, retries, dead-letter queues and schema evolution.

Strong PostgreSQL optimisation skills, including query analysis, indexing, partitioning, connection pooling and replication.

Experience with database migrations, backups and point-in-time recovery.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly CloudFormation.

Knowledge of unit, integration, load and performance testing.

Excellent communication skills, a proactive approach to architecture and technology, and proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice to have

Experience with Scala, Kotlin or Java.

Experience with CDC tools, such as Debezium or AWS DMS.

AWS certifications, such as Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer Professional or Data Engineer.

Knowledge of HL IT products or the container shipping industry.
