Job summary

Primer is seeking a backend-focused engineer to drive the dispute automation platform and fraud risk capabilities. You will own backend systems end-to-end, shape architecture decisions, and partner with product teams to deliver scalable automation for merchants and PSP integrations.

The role involves collaborating with fraud vendors and data engineers, while occasionally contributing to frontend work and dashboards to ship features rapidly to customers.

Qualifications

• Experience owning backend systems end-to-end—from design to shipping and monitoring.
• Comfortable designing systems from scratch.
• Strong architecture and code-quality instincts.
• Experience mentoring or raising the technical bar for teammates.

Responsibilities

• Move across the backend and support development of the new dashboard frontend where needed.
• Architect and build automation for payment disputes at scale: notification, deadlines, evidence collection, responses.
• Expand dispute coverage from five PSPs to Primer's network.
• Collaborate with third-party fraud vendors to build a unified switching experience, not bolt-ons.
• Design and ship native rules and signals engines as automation merchants configure.
