Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Identity International) to lead backend systems for our international expansion. Remote Poland, you will set technical strategy for your team and collaborate with product, design, and analytics to deliver scalable identity services across markets.

You will own reliability, operate on-call readiness, mentor engineers, and help evolve core platform with new risk models while driving performance and fraud controls.

Qualifications

• 8+ years designing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with Python or Kotlin.
• Proven track record in distributed systems (AWS, MySQL, Spark, Kubernetes).
• Ability to plan technical strategy for teams and drive execution.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long horizon.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics to ensure sustainability and risk management.
• Act as a force-multiplier by defining technical solutions and processes.
• Own team operations, monitoring, on-call readiness, and incident response.
