Job summary

Box Poland seeks a Software Engineer III (Backend) to join the Automate team and help build the backend of Box’s workflow engine in Java. You will focus on scalable, correct systems and work with cross-functional teams to deliver features.

You will mentor engineers, participate in code reviews, and contribute to architectural decisions within an AI-first, agile culture. This role often involves hybrid work from the office and collaboration across teams.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience with backend emphasis.
• Proficiency in Java and solid understanding of OO design, data structures, and algorithms.
• CS-related degree or equivalent practical training.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services powering the Box Automate workflow engine in Java.
• Build and optimize algorithms for graph representation, traversal, and execution.
• Develop and extend the Automate meta-language for complex, variable-driven workflows.
• Collaborate with product, design, and infrastructure to define requirements and deliver features on schedule.
• Participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to best practices and architecture.
• Join on-call rotation and support incident triage as needed.
• Attend and actively participate in team stand-ups and planning sessions.
