Job summary

Box Poland seeks an experienced Software Engineer III (Backend) to join the Automate team, crafting backend systems in Java for the workflow engine that powers automated business processes across millions of instances.

You will collaborate with product, design, and infra, tackle graph algorithms, and develop a meta-language for dynamic workflows while mentoring juniors and supporting on-call reliability. Fluency in English is required.

Qualifications

3+ years of professional backend software development experience.
Strong Java expertise and OO design principles.
Experience with graph algorithms and complex systems.
Experience building scalable backend services and databases.
Fluent English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

Design and implement backend services powering the Box Automate workflow engine.
Build and optimize algorithms for workflow graph representation, traversal, and execution.
Develop the Automate meta-language for complex, variable-driven workflows.
Collaborate with product, design, and infra to define requirements and deliver features.
Participate in code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and shape best practices.
Participate in on-call rotation and triage issues as they arise.
Attend stand-ups, team meetings, and 1:1s to ensure alignment.
