Job summary

Box Poland is seeking a Software Engineer III (Backend) to join the Automate team. You will design and implement backend services in Java, focusing on a scalable workflow engine that models and executes complex workflows as graphs.

You will optimize algorithms, help extend a meta-language for dynamic workflows, and collaborate across product, design, and infrastructure to ship features reliably. You will contribute to code reviews, mentor juniors, and participate in on-call rotations and weekly

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience with backend focus.
• Proficient in Java with solid OO design, data structures, and algorithms.
• Experience building scalable backend systems including databases, caching, and asynchronous processing.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken).

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services powering the Box Automate workflow engine with clean, maintainable Java code.
• Develop algorithms for workflow graph representation, traversal, and execution at scale.
• Extend the Automate meta-language for complex, variable-driven workflows.
• Collaborate with product, design, and infra to define requirements and deliver features on schedule.
• Participate in code reviews, mentor juniors, and contribute to engineering best practices.
• Take part in on-call rotation and respond to incidents as needed.
• Attend team stand-ups and manager 1:1s to ensure alignment.
