Job summary

Affim is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help shape its multi-region, multi-tenant infrastructure and APIs powering customer communications.

You will own quarterly technical goals for the Communications area, design reliable backend services, and collaborate with product, design, analytics, security, and engineering to deliver scalable solutions while maintaining operational resilience.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development or engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python, Kotlin, or similar.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, DynamoDB, and Kubernetes.
• Design multi-region, multi-tenant platforms with strong isolation, scalability and data-consistency guarantees.
• Experience integrating with third-party communications vendors and abstractions for rate limits and failure modes.
• Ability to define a technical plan for delivering a significant feature with simple, extensible design.
• Proficient at making changes in large code bases with safe tooling and processes.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools and sound validation.
• Strong communication for global engineering collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly technical goals for the Communications area across messaging infrastructure.
• Design and evolve reliable backend services for high-volume communications across multi-region, multi-tenant environments.
• Collaborate with product, design, analytics, security and engineering to balance customer impact, risks and trade-offs.
• Design, implement and operate resilient integrations with external messaging vendors and rate limits.
• Identify and solve issues affecting scalability, developer experience and operational resilience.
• Support service availability by defining SLAs, improving alerting, and participating in on-call rotation.
• Drive quality and ownership through better design, testing, code reviews, and deployments.
