Job summary

ABB is seeking an experienced SAP ABAP developer to build and support ABAP solutions in ECC and S/4HANA as part of a central development team. You’ll write production code, interact with business users, and contribute across Finance, Logistics, Operations, and Sales while embracing agentic AI platforms.

You will report to the ABAP Development Lead as an individual contributor with no people management responsibilities.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of SAP development experience including ABAP in ECC and S/4HANA
• Experience with enhancements, interfaces (IDoc, RFC/BAPI, OData, REST) and performance tuning
• SAP S/4HANA exposure including CDS views and clean core principles
• Strong collaboration with business users to understand processes and configurations
• Proven ability to deliver production outcomes and adhere to development standards
• Willingness to adopt AI-assisted SAP development platforms (Nova Intelligence/Conduct)
• Proficient in English (written and spoken)

Responsibilities

• Build and deliver production ABAP in ECC weekly, meet commitments and resolve blockers.
• Contribute to S/4HANA stabilization and planning using CDS, RAP, ABAP Cloud, with standard extensibility where applicable.
• Work directly with business users to understand requirements and configurations behind processes.
• Follow team standards: coding guidelines, ABAP Test Cockpit, transport discipline, code reviews, and AI-assisted development within team rules.

This Position reports to:

IS Manager

In this role, you will build and support the SAP ABAP solutions that run our business as one of the first developers on a new central development team. Each day, you will write production code in SAP ECC and S/4HANA: reports, enhancements, interfaces, forms, and posting logic. You will work directly with the business users who depend on that code. You will also showcase your experience by taking on work across Finance, Logistics, Operations and Sales as priorities shift, and by bringing practical clean core judgment to our S/4HANA journey. You will learn and use the agentic AI development platforms the team is adopting, such as Nova Intelligence and Conduct.

In this role, you will report to the ABAP Development Lead, work as an individual contributor, and have no people management responsibilities.

The work model for the role is: Hybrid, minimum 3 days per week in the office.

This role contributes to the Information Systems Core Business Applications (ERP) team, Electrification business area Installation Products division, in India. Main stakeholders are business users and project leads in Finance, Logistics, Operations, and Sales; the ABAP Development Lead; functional consultants; the SAP BTP and integration teams; and SAP Basis.

• Building and finishing: delivering production ABAP in ECC every week, closing your commitments on the date you gave, chasing what is blocked, and following up after go-live until the problem is really solved.


• Bridging to S/4HANA: contributing to S/4HANA Public Cloud stabilization and Private Cloud planning using CDS, RAP and ABAP Cloud, and choosing standard extensibility over classic enhancement where it fits.


• Working directly with the business: sitting with the people who have the problem, understanding the process and configuration behind it, and building what they actually need.


• Working to the team standard: following coding guidelines, ABAP Test Cockpit checks, code review and transport discipline, reviewing colleagues' code, and using AI-assisted development within the team's rules.

Qualifications For The Role

• You have more than 8 years of SAP development experience, with deep current ABAP knowledge in ECC, including enhancements, IDoc, RFC/BAPI, OData, and REST interfaces, plus performance optimization.


• You show a consistent ability to deliver production outcomes that can be measured, including initiatives that were delayed before you inherited them.


• You have practical SAP S/4HANA experience, including CDS views and a solid understanding of clean core principles.


• You enjoy working directly with business users and understanding the process and configuration behind a requirement, not only the specification.


• You have established skills in working to a shared development standard, including code review, ABAP Test Cockpit, and transport discipline, in onshore/offshore or multi-team environments.


• You are open to AI-assisted development and ready to learn agentic SAP platforms such as Nova Intelligence or Conduct. Prior AI experience.


• You are comfortable using English in both conversation and writing.
