Job summary

Botz Limited is seeking a Senior Robotics Research Engineer to join a frontier soft robotics project backed by teams in London and Milan. You will own the simulation, learning, and control stack, training policies that transfer from simulation to hardware, and bridging model-based and learned control strategies.

You’ll work on hard-to-model systems, deploy policies on physical robots, and collaborate across international teams, with occasional travel to London and Milan.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional robotics software experience, or 3+ years after a PhD in Robotics, ML for Robotics, Controls, or related field
• Experience training and deploying learned policies (reinforcement learning or imitation learning) on physical robots
• Experience taking a policy from simulation to hardware and identifying reality gaps
• Fluent in PyTorch or JAX and comfortable with large-scale training in GPU-parallel simulators
• Strong knowledge of state-space methods, LQR or MPC, state estimation, and when classical controllers beat learned ones
• Proficient in modern C++ and clean Python for engineers
• Experience with ROS 2 on real projects
• Fluency in English

Responsibilities

• Own the simulation, learning, and control stack used by our robots
• Build simulators for hard-to-model systems and train policies that transfer to the real world
• Combine learned and model-based control where each is strongest
• Transition soft bodies from simulation to robust real-world behavior
• Develop tools that enable rapid experimentation and reproducibility
• Occasional travel to London and Milan as part of the role
