GitLab is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer on the Plan: Spec-Driven Development team to build agentic workflows that turn a stated intent into refined work items, implementation plans, and verified code. You’ll own early-stage backend work across flows, APIs, data models, and evaluation systems, using Ruby on Rails, Python, PostgreSQL, GraphQL, GitLab Duo Agent Platform, and AI gateways.

• Strong Ruby on Rails experience in a large production codebase.
• Production experience with Python.
• Experience driving substantial projects with several engineers over multiple months.
• Product mindset and end-to-end feature ownership.
• Full-stack background with backend focus and APIs design.
• Strong API design and SQL fundamentals.
• Experience exploring AI-assisted development.
• Ability to work independently and mentor others.
• Experience with GraphQL, PostgreSQL performance at scale is helpful.

Responsabilidades

• Lead backend features from early product discussions through technical design, implementation, rollout, and post-launch learning.
• Build the flows, APIs, and data models behind agent-generated work items and durable specifications.
• Develop evaluation and benchmarking systems for workflow quality and cost.
• Use Ruby on Rails and Python to build reliable production systems with PostgreSQL and GraphQL.
• Collaborate with product, design, engineers, and users to shape scope and trade-offs.
• Coordinate multi-person projects across an all-remote team and communicate decisions clearly.
• Mentor other engineers and contribute to technical direction across Plan and AI initiatives.
• Work in short iterations, demo progress, and use feedback to guide next steps.
