Job summary

Shapely is seeking a remote Coding & Documentation Compliance Specialist to ensure documentation supports billing and maximize legitimate revenue. This independent contractor role focuses on hands-on coding audits, template creation, and education for clinicians and billing staff.

The position requires CPC/CCS-P credentials (CPMA preferred), 5+ years outpatient E/M coding with auditing experience, and deep knowledge of Medicare telehealth and MIPS requirements. US-based and ~15–20 hours/week.

Qualifications

• CPC (AAPC) or CCS-P (AHIMA) certification required.
• CPMA strongly preferred or equivalent chart-audit experience.
• Minimum 5 years coding outpatient E/M with direct auditing experience.
• Strong knowledge of Medicare telehealth rules.
• Experience with MIPS reporting and quality-measure documentation.
• US-based with strong Medicare experience.

Responsibilities

• Audit baseline documentation across encounters and deliver findings report with error rates by provider and service line.
• Run ongoing quarterly audits (10 charts per provider) plus focused service-line reviews.
• Perform 100% pre-bill review during new-code rollouts until error rate is under 5%.
• Place providers with >10% error rate on monthly review with targeted education.
• Evaluate the appropriateness of codes and define required documentation before billing.
• Write documentation guidance for clinical staff and billing team.
• Assist with MIPS success and suggest template improvements for accuracy.
