Job summary

Pegasystems in Kraków is seeking a Principal Cloud Operations Engineer, Infrastructure, to join a 24x7 follow‑the‑sun team delivering reliable cloud services globally.

You will own provisioning, upgrades, incident management, automation, and collaboration with engineering to improve observability and performance across AWS, Kubernetes, and Tomcat‑based stacks.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of hands‑on operational or engineering experience with Java apps and Tomcat.
• 5+ years of enterprise Linux administration.
• Experience with microservices and Kubernetes.
• 5+ years AWS experience; exposure to GCP/Azure is a plus.
• Deep cloud infrastructure knowledge: upgrades, backups, monitoring, observability.
• Strong JVM memory and garbage collection understanding; SQL skills (PostgreSQL/Oracle).
• Web server administration: Tomcat, Apache, Nginx, IIS.
• Basic scripting in Bash/Python; networking basics (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN).

Responsibilities

• Be the expert in the Pega Cloud environment and mentor others.
• Handle alerts, incidents, service requests and changes within SLA; own escalations.
• Provision new environments and upgrade infrastructure components and apps.
• Troubleshoot customer environments with root‑cause analysis and blameless post‑mortems.
• Influence product teams on defects and expansion requests for reliability.
• Create and update operational runbooks and standard procedures.
• Participate in pre‑release testing with Engineering, automate repetitive tasks.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing goals.

Principal Cloud Operations Engineer, Infrastructure

As a member of Cloud Operations, you will be a key member responsible for the reliability and availability of Pegasystems cloud service offerings. What You’ll Do At Pega

• Be an expert in the Pega Cloud environment, fully understanding all concepts and technologies. Act as a mentor in the Pega Cloud area for other parts of the Pega organization.
• Handle alerts, incidents, service requests and changes within SLA. Own customer escalations.
• Perform provisioning of new environments and upgrade of the infrastructure components & product application.
• Troubleshoot and resolve customer environment issues along with root‑cause analysis and blameless post‑mortems.
• Influence product teams on defects, feature, and enhancement requests to help build scalable, reliable, observable, available and highly performant services.
• Create, review, and update operational runbooks and Standard Operating Procedures.
• Participate in testing of pre‑release product enhancements with Engineering.
• Identify the needs and build tools to automate repeated operational tasks and reduce toil.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing business goals.

Education / Certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent.
• AWS Certification, a plus.
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator, a plus.
• Pega Certified System Architect (CSA) Certification, a plus.

What You’ve Accomplished

• 8+ years of hands‑on operational or engineering experience in installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and tuning Java applications and Apache Tomcat application servers.
• 5+ years of experience with enterprise‑scale Linux administration.
• Experience with microservices architecture with Kubernetes is strongly preferred.
• 5+ years of hands‑on operational experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Exposure to additional public clouds such as GCP or Azure, a plus.
• Deep understanding of cloud‑based infrastructure, platform, and application operational administration – including product and platform upgrades, installations, backup, and recovery, monitoring and observability, etc.
• Experience with analyzing performance, using tools such as thread and heap dumps with a strong understanding of JVM memory structure and garbage collection concepts.
• Administration of web servers running Tomcat, Apache, IIS, Nginx.
• Knowledgeable in database troubleshooting and SQL skills preferably PostgreSQL or Oracle.
• Basic network troubleshooting skills including TCP/IP, DNS, VPN.
• Experience understanding scripting languages like Bash/Shell, Python, or similar.

Additional Information

Base salary range for this role is 236,500 – 360,300 PLN annually. This role may also be eligible for an annual bonus or commission, as well as benefits and other incentives. The final compensation will be determined during the offer process based on the candidate’s education, experience, skills, and qualifications, as well as market conditions and may vary from the posted range.
