Job summary

Mistral is seeking a Research Engineer to help build the Orchestral platform. You will own substantial pieces end to end, from design to production, focusing on reliability and scalability for large-scale AI workloads.

You will work with researchers as your users, shipping robust tooling, improving data and job flows, and contributing to open-source rollout-engine and agent-infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Experience directly building and debugging complex distributed systems at scale.
• Strong Python skills and software-design instincts (testing, code review, CI/CD).
• Builder mindset with systems constructed from the ground up.
• Track record in small teams running complex systems at scale (finance, crypto, ad tech).
• Self-starter, low-ego and collaborative with a product mindset toward users.
• Curiosity about ML/RL; learning attitude valued.

Responsibilities

• Design and build the core of the Orchestral platform used to train and evaluate models.
• Develop the rollout engine with long-running tasks and subagents.
• Operate Orchestral as a production system ensuring reliable, scalable workloads.
• Improve data and job flow: scheduling, routing and request handling.
• Treat researchers as users and turn workflows into shared tooling.
• Raise engineering quality with testing, code review, CI/CD and observability.
• Contribute to open-source rollout-engine and agent-infrastructure efforts.
