Job description

Technical Specialist – DRI-EAF Process & Metallurgy

Fundacja Instrat is developing aNew Green Steel Plant– aproject tobuild afirst-of-a-kind, near-zero-emission flat-steel mill innorthern Poland based onhydrogen direct reduction and electric arc furnace technology (H2-DRI-EAF), with on-site electrolysis and Baltic renewable power. Weare looking for ametallurgical engineer totake onahands-on technical role inthe project’s development team, supporting technology evaluation, vendor assessment and engineering documentation from pre-feasibility through FEED.

This is ahands-on technical execution role, not aleadership position. You will work closely with Instrat’s project team and, asthe team grows, the project’s Technical Director, building deep first-hand expertise inafirst-of-a-kind technology while supporting the analysis and documentation that underpins the project’s technical decisions.

Scope of responsibilities
  • Technical benchmarking.Support the evaluation of DRI, electric arc furnace, downstream and hydrogen electrolysis technology options – preparing comparison matrices, technical write-ups and benchmarking materials that inform the project’s technology decisions.
  • Vendor RFI/RFP support.Draft technical questionnaires, coordinate vendor responses, and maintain structured documentation of RFI/RFP processes across technology and equipment packages.
  • – Technical basis of design.Maintain and update core technical documentation – process flow diagrams, mass and energy balances, and the project’s technical assumptions register – asthe design matures through pre-feasibility and FEED.
  • – Industry tracking.Monitor developments inDRI-EAF and adjacent green steel technologies, and translate relevant findings into the project’s internal knowledge base.
Cross-functional support
  • Interfaces with financial & energy modelling.Work with the project’s financial and energy-modelling colleagues toensure technical assumptions – CAPEX components, consumption rates, technical parameters – are accurately reflected inproject economics.
  • Stakeholder materials.Prepare technical inputs and supporting materials for permitting processes, investor and public-institution communications, and due-diligence requests.
Requirements
  • Engineering education.Degree inmetallurgical engineering (oraclosely related discipline: materials, mechanical, chemical orprocess engineering).
  • Relevant experience.3-7 years of hands-on technical orprocess-engineering experience inmetallurgy, steelmaking (EAF orintegrated route), DRI, oracomparable heavy-process industry.

  • Communication.Able totranslate technical detail into clear, decision-ready materials for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ownership & learning mindset.Self-motivated and comfortable working inasmall, fast-moving development team; keen tobuild deep expertise inafirst-of-a-kind technology under the guidance of senior technical leadership.

  • Ideal:hands-on technical orprocess-engineering experience inDRI, EAF, integrated steelmaking, orrolling-mill operations.
  • Strongly transferable:process ortechnical engineering experience inadjacent heavy industries (e.g. chemicals, hydrogen, cement, power), with agenuine interest inbuilding steel-specific expertise.
  • Aplus:prior exposure totechnology vendor evaluation, RFI/RFP processes, orFEED-stage engineering documentation. You donot need tomeet every requirement. If you have hands-on technical experience inmetallurgy oracomparable process industry and want tobuild deep expertise onafirst-of-a-kind project, weencourage you toapply.
