Job summary

Affirm is hiring a lead engineer for its EU teams, focusing on architecture across cards and cross-functional collaborations. You will own end-to-end engineering for EU card systems, spanning real-time processing and post-transaction ledgering, with a strong emphasis on reliability and scalability.

The role demands 8+ years of software experience, mastery of Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes, and proven frontend capabilities.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a software engineer.
• Proficient in designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale (Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, Kubernetes).
• Proficient in developing frontend applications.
• Experience delivering major features or components with a clear technical plan.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and scale architectures from low-level to large systems.
• Strong ability to gather feedback and iterate with engineering and cross-functional peers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for global collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon.
• Lead software engineering for all EU cards.
• Collaborate with product, design and analytics to ensure technical sustainability and risk management.
• Drive adoption of robust operational processes and on-call readiness.
• Define code review and design standards and evangelize them beyond the team.
• Develop team talent through feedback and mentoring.
• Ensure system reliability and performance across transaction processing and post-transaction ledgering.
