Job summary

HL Tech Poland is building the next generation of trade execution platforms. You will contribute to backend services in Java/Spring Boot, design REST APIs and cloud-native workflows, and operate AWS-based infrastructure in a distributed Poland-UK engineering setup.

The role emphasises ownership, reliability, and collaboration across teams while maintaining high standards for security and testing.

Qualifications

• Strong Java/Spring Boot backend experience.
• Practical AWS experience in production environments.
• Experience designing and integrating REST APIs and microservices.
• Experience owning services in production, including monitoring and reliability improvements.
• Experience with distributed, event-driven or highly available systems.
• Understanding of observability practices (metrics, tracing, logging).
• Understanding of testing, maintainability and security practices.
• Experience with containers and Kubernetes.
• English (C1) and Polish (B2) proficiency.

Build systems that power trade execution for millions of investors

HL Tech is the technology hub of Hargreaves Lansdown, a privately owned UK financial services group trusted by approximately 2 million clients and supporting more than £172 billion in savings and investments.

We are part of HL's product and engineering organisation, not an outsourcing company or shared service centre. Our teams in Poland and the UK jointly design, build and run the platforms used by HL clients.

You will join Trade Execution, the team responsible for systems connecting clients with financial markets, including trade routing, order execution and broker integrations. The role combines new development with the modernisation and support of established trading components.

What you will do

• Build and improve backend services using Java and Spring Boot
• Design and implement REST APIs and multi-service flows

• Write secure, maintainable and testable code, supported by automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests
• Support business-critical production systems and investigate incidents
• Use metrics, tracing, logging and monitoring to improve reliability and observability
• Contribute to solution design, technical discussions and code reviews
• Collaborate with Product and engineering colleagues across Poland and the UK to design, build and improve trading services

Requirements

Must-have

• Strong commercial experience building backend applications in Java using Spring Boot
• Practical AWS experience gained in production environments
• Experience designing and integrating REST APIs and microservices
• Experience owning services in production, including monitoring, incident investigation and reliability improvements
• Experience working with distributed, event-driven or highly available systems
• Understanding of observability practices, including metrics, tracing, logging and monitoring
• Understanding of testing, maintainability, security and engineering best practices
• Experience with containers and Kubernetes
• English at C1 level and Polish at B2 level or higher

Nice-to-have

• Financial services, investment or trading systems experience
• JPA or Hibernate
• Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools
• Exposure to TypeScript, Node.js or React
