The team – Wealth & Private Banking – Chief Technology Officer - Business Automation Technology (WPB CTO BAT). WPB CTO BAT team within HSBC Technology Poland is positioned as a nearshore location for European countries, widely supported by the bigger offshore teams on deliveries. The team is helping to build, implement and maintain new initiatives and systems mainly for the internal HSBC employees in the EU region. We are building new internal solutions and enabling local businesses to strive and meet not only regulatory demands but also their growth agenda. Located in the Technology Centre, the team acts as a bridge between in-country IT teams and other HSBC technology teams. Our products cover digital signature, workflow, content management, process streamlining and automation, with a strong emphasis on autonomy and technology direction for the EU region. We seek new team members to guide and lead delivery teams, evolve technologically, and bring new technologies to stakeholders and the EU business.

The Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer to help our agile software development team build and deliver simplification/automation solutions across the region. The Software Engineer is responsible for technical excellence, delivering multiple strategic initiatives, ensuring smooth technical implementation, and commercializing our solutions while building strong, long-term relationships with business partners.

Technical purpose: full stack development of Java-based solutions. Job duties include software development and automated tests, discussing specifications with the business in an Agile environment, and providing support when necessary. The team works in an international environment supporting 20 countries in European time zones. The Software Engineer participates in the entire project life cycle from inception to transition, with a strong emphasis on quality using TDD/ATDD and CI/CD.

Key Accountabilities

• Developer is accountable for successful delivery of Technology projects by the Java Team:
• Analyze and propose solutions based on business requirements
• Efficiently translate these requirements into working software
• Demo the solution to the business and incorporate feedback
• Amend and produce specifications/documentation as required
• Investigate live system faults, diagnose problems, propose and provide solutions
• Complete projects in a timely manner

Requirements

• University or Technical College graduate (preferable in IT) with at least 3 years of programming experience
• Good knowledge and working experience with (ordered by priority):
  • Java, J2EE
  • Application Servers (WebSphere Application Server/ Liberty)
  • Databases (PL/SQL, MS SQL Server 2012 or higher)
  • Spring Framework, Hibernate, JSF, JSP
  • Maven or other build/packaging frameworks
  • Web UI development and testing, JavaScript, HTML, Angular, TypeScript
  • Clean Code Principles, Design patterns
  • TDD/ATDD, CI/CD
  • Micro-services based architecture
• Good English language communication skills, both written and verbal
• Cloud knowledge & experience (GCP or AWS) would be a big plus
• Team player with good interpersonal skills and adaptability to change
• Curiosity and learning capabilities with ability to absorb new technologies
• Self-organized with good business communication experience
• Ability to work in a diversified international environment
• Ability to work efficiently and independently under pressure
• Knowledge of how banks work and operate would be a plus
• Experience in a corporate world is a significant plus
