Workplays in Kraków is seeking an exceptional Head of Engineering to lead the entire engineering organization, set technical direction, and ensure scalable, high-quality gaming platforms.

You will oversee backend, frontend, data pipelines, and DevOps, mentor leaders, collaborate with product and design, and drive architecture decisions as the company builds location-based mobile games.

Qualifications

• Broad experience across full-stack engineering and modern stacks.
• Proven leadership of 20+ engineers across multiple teams.
• Architectural vision for large-scale, globally distributed systems.
• Strong communication and alignment of teams with business goals.
• Experience with agile/iterative development methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Define engineering strategy across multiple teams (backend, frontend, data, DevOps/infrastructure).
• Drive architectural decisions for scalable, high-performance systems serving millions of players.
• Oversee platform development (Scala backend, Unity clients, Kubernetes, big data pipelines).
• Build and mentor engineering leaders, fostering technical excellence and learning.
• Establish engineering best practices, standards, and workflows across teams.
• Collaborate with product and design to translate game vision into robust tech solutions.
• Optimize delivery processes while maintaining quality and reliability.
• Make technology choices balancing innovation, scalability and team capability.
• Manage technical roadmap aligned with business objectives and player needs.
• Foster open communication, trust, experimentation and accountability.
