Job summary

Hitachi Energy is seeking a Researcher for our Kraków center to develop and validate mathematical models for power grid stability and reliability. You will work with a global team to advance numerical simulations, leveraging modern computational techniques and AI-enabled approaches.

The role emphasizes interdisciplinary research, collaboration with universities and industry partners, and publishing results in scientific reports and patents. A doctorate and strong programming skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Doctorate in Electrical Engineering, Control and Automation or related field.
• Experience developing mathematical models of electric power systems.
• Experience designing and running numerical simulation algorithms for power systems.
• Programming experience beyond Python (e.g. C#, C++, Java, Rust).
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Propose, contribute to and lead research and development projects creating mathematical models and numerical simulations to analyze grid reliability and stability modeling for power systems with a high percentage of distributed, variable renewable generators.
• Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers to identify and solve real-world challenges for our customers through numerical simulations and mathematical modeling.
• Propose and work on ideas to create, run and exploit numerical simulations with business impact, turning them into prototypes and verify them.
• Develop concepts for combining mathematical/physical models of distribution power systems with new technologies like optimization and AI.
• Take a multidisciplinary approach to numerical simulation using different tools and implement novel algorithms.
