Job description

The role is for a Fixed Income Product Controller for CFE and is newly created following the expansion of the CFE Fixed Income business. The asset classes covered are High Yield and Emerging Market bonds of MENA markets.

The Product Controller is responsible for:

  • Daily P&L reporting of Fixed Income Desks
  • Monthly legal entity close bookings and balance sheet substantiation

Both duties report into the Cantor Head of Product Control EMEA (London Office).

The Product Controller will:

  • Prepare daily fixed income P&Ls and lead on explanations of daily P&L movements.
  • Partner with US Fixed Income Product Control to establish robust and best in class product control processes for the new business.
  • Liaise with functional support groups (trade support, front office IT, operations etc), US group reporting, front office traders and business management. The role requires the individual to interact with senior management in finance and the front office businesses.

The front office and finance management require high standards and are demanding in their requirements. The Product Control team work hard to meet deadlines and ensure complete, accurate and timely P&L’s are reported to the trading desks and management.

The individual must be good at multi-tasking, be a clear and concise communicator and interested in having an in-depth understanding of the Cantor Fixed Income and other businesses. Collaboration with US Product Control will be essential to deliver the outcomes expected.

The role, outside of daily P&L production, would also be tasked with enhancing and streamlining the existing reporting processes. The individual therefore would be expected to have a sound understanding of controls, be comfortable working with large data sets and strong excel skills – role is expected to deliver the Finance AI strategy where appropriate.

Key responsibilities:
  • Prepare daily P&L for trading desks.
  • Understand daily P&L movements and be able to explain them clearly and concisely.
  • Perform daily and monthly IPV for trading inventories.
  • Maintain and update models for charging out cash capital and liquidity reserves.
  • Responsible for month end close processes including P&L and Balance Sheet reconciliations and posting ledger entries.
  • Revenue and balance sheet substantiation at a currency level.
  • Ensure the month end closing schedule is completed in an accurate & timely manner.
  • Provide analysis to the business and senior management on an as needed basis – for example, a monthly comparison of reported to actual P&L analysis which explains the variances.
  • Propose new procedures which streamline reporting, improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist with the implementation of new systems infrastructure and develop process improvements.
  • Be a key liaison with the external auditors (EY), regarding account balances and product control processes.
  • Support the Head of Product Control with ad-hoc issues (e.g. new business transaction accounting and reporting).
  • Be alert to Conduct Risk issues, specifically the risk of harm to client interests, market integrity and/or competition in financial markets due to inappropriate practices or behaviours across the firm.
Skills / experience required:
  • Accounting experience (ideally part/fully qualified accountant but will consider unqualified with relevant experience)
  • Must have prior experience of product control and Fixed Income products.
  • Interest in and awareness of financial services and financial instruments.
  • Strong problem-solving skill set.
  • Communicate in a clear, articulate and appropriate manner. Adapt communications to suit different situations, individuals or teams.
